June 7, 2026NMDC celebrates World Environment Day 2026
Hyderabad, June 5, 2026: NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer and a Responsible Miner, observed
World Environment Day 2026 across its Head Office in Hyderabad and projects nationwide, reinforcing
its commitment to sustainable mining and environmental stewardship.
The company organized a special event centered on the WED 2026 theme – Inspired by Nature, For
Climate, For Our Future, highlighting the importance of collective action towards environmental
sustainability. The celebrations commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing a
shared commitment to building a greener future. NMDC's senior leadership, led by Shri Amitava
Mukherjee, CMD, along with Shri Joydeep Dasgupta, Director (Production), Shri Krishan Kumar Thakur,
Director (Personnel), Shri Anurag Kapil, Director (Finance), and Shri C. Neelakanta Reddy, Chief
Vigilance Officer, administered an environmental pledge, inspiring employees to contribute towards
safeguarding natural resources and fostering sustainable practices.
As part of the event, a series of awareness videos were screened and a documentary showcasing NMDC's
ongoing initiatives in environmental conservation, biodiversity preservation, afforestation, and sustainable
mining practices.
Across its projects, NMDC organized plantation drives and a range of competitions for employees and
students to encourage environmental awareness and innovative thinking around sustainability. The
company also distributed environment friendly products, promoting sustainable alternatives and
reinforcing everyday environmental responsibility.
Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD addressed the gathering and said, “The Earth has survived without
humans for most of its existence and has done remarkably well. I am certain that even if humans were to
cease to exist in the future, the Earth would continue comfortably. Therefore, it is in our own interest to
care for the planet and ensure that it remains livable and capable of sustaining us. This is not a survival
strategy for the Earth but for humanity. Every step we take, both commercially and personally, must be
guided by a conscious pause to think and act responsibly.
